About Ups and Downs: Calgary Down Syndrome Association
Ups & Downs, Calgary’s Down Syndrome Association, is a registered charity founded in 1987 that supports individuals with Down syndrome and their families through advocacy, education, and community programs (upsdowns.org
). With more than 70 annual events—including workshops, family gatherings, and the signature Street Meet walkathon—the organization provides opportunities for connection, celebration, and inclusion. Its mission is to build lifelong partnerships, promote healthy lifestyles, and create welcoming communities where people with Down syndrome can thrive. New and expecting parents are supported through the Visiting Parents Program and New Parent Guide, offering peer mentorship and resources during the earliest stages of their journey. While Ups & Downs does not endorse specific providers, it connects families through its Facebook group and a broad local network. Membership, volunteering, and donations are encouraged to sustain programming.
